Several people in my life asked me to quit smoking. My boyfriend even told me that we would break-up if we continue such a filthy habit. I got scared. To quit smoking would mean that a person would have to face withdrawal symptoms and experience a nauseating feeling for days. I don’t see myself going through that but I definitely have to.
As of what I’ve read, smoking leads to so many diseases that are most of the time fatal. I was very inconsiderate before, I never wanted to quit. All I thought was that I was only harming my body not other people but I was wrong.
After going through several readings I’ve seen that passive smoking can cause greater extent of damage to lungs and causes diseases like lung cancer, cervical cancer, and nasal and sinus cancer. Infants, especially, are mostly exposed to certain fatalities that passive smoking does. I can’t risk harming others. That is why I decided to quit smoking.
To quit smoking people need to realize where their need come from. It is usually advised to write-down on a planner that on what times you were tempted to grab a stick and why. The need is usually recognized after a few days. There were studies that indicate that quitting smoking is 10% physical and 90% psychological.
Of course, the body bounces back easily from the nicotine lost but what is important is that a person should know where the urge of trying to smoke came from. Is that urge still present? Could that urge cost you the most valuable things in life? Or could that urge cost your life? I started smoking because my friend suggested me to smoke. The sad thing is, that friend isn’t a part of my life now but still, smoking is. If only I knew any stop smoking tip so I can rid it just like I rid my friend.
Digging the reason of starting is only half-way of the decision making. We also need to know the reason for stopping. Of course, we all do know that smoking will yield to several diseases but on the more shallow side, smoking also leads to dry skin and inevitably, you age earlier than planned.
Also, it does affect relationships with the people that you really care about and the people whom you will care and love most; your future children. To quit smoking may be difficult but to grow old faster and to risk your child’s health should be harder. Think about it.
