Folks, the quit smoking pill is the only thing that has worked for my wife and me. Other stop smoking aids haven’t done anything but cost us money and frustration. The quit smoking pills, on the other hand, turned out to be cheap, effective and trouble free.

What Happens When You Quit Smoking With Pills?

That’s the coolest thing of all! Absolutely nothing happens, except that you don’t smoke anymore. You simply take your pill twice a day and go on with your life. The biggest thing you will have to deal with is building new habits, finding out new things to do with yourself at the times that you used to smoke.

Actually, you smoke as usual for the first week, or longer if you feel you have to. Anyway, after a week or two you simply stop. This is very sneaky, though, and I didn’t realize it myself until part-way through the process. You actually quit smoking before you quit. How can that be? Lets look at the mechanism involved.

How Do Quit Smoking Pills Work?

Supposedly, the chemicals in the pills attach to the nicotine receptors in the brain. When the receptors are occupied, there’s nothing for the nicotine to attach to and it has no effect. I said supposedly, because this sequence of events hasn’t been completely proven. The pamphlet that came with my pills was full of phrases like it is thought that. What I got from that is that they only know that they seem to work. There may be something else going on in the brain that produces the same outcome, but for now they are using this model. There’s no question that they actually work.

That’s why I could say you quit before you quit in the previous section. The champix (chantix in the states) blocks the effect of the nicotine! That means that, even if you are still smoking, you aren’t getting any physical effect from it. As far as your body is concerned, the nicotine intake stopped when the pills started. So you actually stop without any physical symptoms at all. This is totally supported by other research on overcoming addictions, by the way.

Subjects trying to overcome addictions to various substances have been able to do so without symptoms, if they were lied to. When they receive a placebo and it is administered with the same ritual as the real drug would be, they react as though they had been given the true drug. Addiction is a lot more than a physical response to a chemical.

This effect was found with alcohol as well. Interestingly, the placebos brought out the same personality traits as the real booze. So, a mean drunk that started fights got mean and started fights even though he had not been given any alcohol. Some research on addiction has come to the conclusion that taking the drug is a predictor of a given state and not the cause of it.

That also explains how physical withdrawal symptoms can vanish before the drug is administered. This is something that was pointed out by the Rational Recovery people. It doesn’t matter how much your skin is crawling, or how much you are climbing the walls. As soon as you decide to finally have that smoke or that drink you start to feel better. The cravings are generated by the addicted part of the brain to force you to break down. There are no physical symptoms. Its all in your head.

Quit Smoking Right Now

So, that’s my vote for the best stop smoking aid I’ve ever come across. Your mileage may vary, but if you seriously want to quit smoking for good, the quit smoking pills are your best shot. As far as I’m concerned it should be right at the top of every list of stop smoking tips. Nothing else even comes close.
