I am thinking of trying to quit smoking( iv tried this b/f) after a habit of 1 &1/2 packs a day for 16 years. I can not use the patches b/c they give me a rash. My doc says if i want, she can prescribe me pills. I have heard bad things about pills to help you quit smoking. Has anyone ever used any of the pills for this? What kind & did they help? Thanks
There are different medications, the latest being Champix (Chantix in US). Zyban is an older medication (Wellbutrin) which was developed as an antidepressant, but was observed to have the curious side effect of making patients not feel like smoking.
Speak to your doctor. If you really want to quit, it might be worth a trial of medication. I have had patients have success with both.
Best wishes.

I have never tried them, my dad did and he had a heart attack. I am not trying to scar you but I just wanted to let you know. My doctor told me it was best to try the gum. There is a pill out there that my friend has tried and it worked wonders for her. I can’t remember the name of them though, but she said they are real good.
