The best way to stop smoking without buying anything? Easy. Stop sucking on burning tobacco. Simple, right? Your odds of success are about one in ten. That sounds grim. But , if you spend a fair amount of money on stop smoking aids and follow the programs to a T, the probability that you’ll be back smoking next year are about 2 to 1. That’s just the sad truth. So, maybe you should save your money.
See, the problem isn’t really a dependency on nicotine. The thing that makes it hard to quit smoking forever is that, deep down inside, you identify as a smoker. That means that, to you, smoking is attractive. So you have a choice between doing something you like or constantly going without and feeling deprived. How long can that last?
Something has to happen to change the way you view yourself and the way you think about tobacco use. Some people have experienced this change spontaneously. It could be that something about the dangers of smoking suddenly gelled inside them and they changed in that instant. Whatever the cause, something has to happen inside you so that you perceive smoking as the filthy, expensive and dangerous habit that it really is. If that change doesn’t happen you won’t be able to quit for long.
What this all boils down to is that you need some form of hypnosis to stop smoking. It may be classical hypnosis or NLP or self-hypnosis that you learn yourself from a book. Something has to happen to get deep inside you and change the way you see tobacco.
I know less than ten people who have quit smoking for good. Of those, half fall into the ’spontaneous epiphany’ group and the rest all went through some form of stop smoking hypnosis.
The actual hypnosis doesn’t have to be long, expensive or private, either. In fact, all the people I know who have quit smoking with hypnosis took part in mass inductions in a theater. They paid around eight bucks, went and sat in a theater while the hypnotist did his thing and they never smoked again. No cravings. Nothing. They were just done with smoking.
Hypnosis may seem expensive. Nowadays, it probably costs around $50 to sit through one of these inductions. Think about it, though. If you quit with Chantix, the whole program will cost around $250, and the same thing goes for any other pills you take to stop smoking. Three months worth of patches will cost the same. Of course, if you do nothing you’ll spend two or three hundred a month on smokes for the rest of your life. Makes the cost of an hypnosis session look pretty cheap.
So, the answer to the question we started with, ie What is the Best Way to Stop Smoking Without Buying Anything, is that there isn’t any one. Unless you’re one of the few lucky souls who quits spontaneously you have to spend some money somewhere. One of the best places to spend it is on some good hypnosis. Otherwise, quitting smoking is just another expensive hobby.
